When you like a person, you want to be with him, because he makes you happy; after you leave him, you might smile when you think of the him, and life goes on and you wish that one day might meet him again.

When you love a person, you want to be with him, you don't want to let him go, you're afraid that he would suffer, afraid that he cannot take care of himself. When he is no longer in your life, you will also miss him, but you will sigh and wonder how is he doing now. Life goes on as normal and you hope that he would return to your side one day.

喜歡的人在你眼中是天使,無所不能,他總會滿足你的任性的要求。你的人在你眼中是孩子,傻傻的,你不期望他做出什麼'好事'來,只一味縱容他那些讓人哭笑不得的舉動。

In your eyes, the person you like is like an angel, willing to do what you ask him to. The person you love however is just like a child in your eyes, the silly boy whose every action makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time.

你會希望你
喜歡的人陪著你,然而你心中想的可能是你的人;你會希望陪在你的人身邊,看他在你面前睡得如此安逸甜美毫不設防的樣子,你會微笑,會覺得好幸福。

You will want the person you like to be by your side but in your heart, you could be thinking of the one you love. And if the one you love is sleeping beside you, seeing that peaceful and vulnerable face will bring a smile to your face and you will feel blessed.

If the person that you like hurts you, you would get angry and you would only forgive him after he has pacify you. But if the person you love hurts you, you would swallow it down because you don't want to scream at him. You would look at him in the eyes and when you see that his eyes is filled with remorse and guilt and even tears, you will 心疼 him so much that you will embrace him and tell him it is alright. In that moment, you are blessed and in bliss.

你可以同時喜歡很多人,你會希望和很多人在一起,但也許很多年後你才發現,原來你的就只有那麼一個,就那麼一個,怎麼都不會變,你以為把他忘記了,其實只是忙的沒空想起而已,

You can like many people at the same time, and wish to be together with many of them, but after many years, you may realize that there's only one person whom you really love, and it has never changed. You may think that you have forgotten, but you were just to busy to remember.

對於你
喜歡的人,你關注的是他的優點;對於你的人,你關注的是他的缺點,並且,那些缺點如果無關原則的話,它們在你眼裡是可愛的,獨一無二的。

You focus on the good points of the person you like, but for the person you love, you focus on his flaws, but these flaws are endearing to you, they are unique flaws in him that you find so cute.

They say that loving a person is tiring, and indeed it is because you want to share any burden with him, but perhaps the biggest difference between love and like is that...

當你和
的人在一起時,你的感覺就像回家了!

.. when you're together with the person you love, you feel like you have come home.

Random shots over the days

I went cycling a couple of days back from East Coast all the way to Changi Village and had the nasi lemak there! Of course i needed to stop by the runway to look at the planes:

The SAF Ferry Terminal, such fond, and not-so-fond memories of my BMT days, waiting here for the ferry to bring us away from civilization:

Running around Haji Lane and Katong and Siglap:

Jem forgot to capture the shoes i was trying on into this shot!!

This is a damn good idea for a fish tank!

Inspired by Little Nonya, we had Peranakan food

young men are too drama, old men are too jaded

Such a lovely title isn't it? Something of the sort where we can imagine collection of short stories, from love stories to the not-so-love-story.

I just realized that I haven't updated much here, and sometimes I wonder what is the purpose of a blog afterall these days. When I was much younger (refer to my 2001 posting for reference), I used to blog a whole lot more, and I remember that this blog is like a diary for me, for me to pen down the goings in my life, so that I can remember. I still remember this "code" that a blog is as much like a bedtime diary just that people can read. I also remember arguments we had (Alanna and I and others) have over other people's issue with our postings; essentially they had issues with what we said and I remember telling those people that if you don't like what you are reading, then stop reading it (like Duh!)

But as I grew older, I (well we actually) bought a real paper diary in which I pen down my most most personal thoughts, thoughts and feelings which I am starting to think that people should not and need not know about, as opposed to some other thoughts and feelings which I think can be shared. Its like there are things which I want to tell all my friends, and I would love to say it to them, but sometimes repeating it is quite tiring.

Then there are other reasons such as the issue itself, and public viewing. And as I am typing this, I think of times when I think of how to disguise what I am trying to say such that it is obvious but not obvious enough.

I am going to continue to blog, especially when my interest to 'bitch' about certain topics is still alive and burning. I am really starting to think about how much change one goes through as we grow and mature. Our personality stays the same but manifests itself in different manner. So what am I trying to say here?

Young men are too drama and old men are too jaded!!

Yeah I Dunno Why I'm Feeling Kinda Blue

Yeah I Dunno Why I'm Feeling Kinda Blue

We sailed over seven seas
Won't you let me catch you fall
What are you looking at
I'm ms american dream since i was 17

Goodnight sweetheart its time to go
When you beat on that drum
I'm trying not to stare
Some say the heart is just like a wheel

Mystery the moon
Who made up all the rules
And even though the moments passed me by
Dad your boy is about to fall

It's hard to remember how it felt before
There's another world inside of me
This is where the summer ends
If I am lost for a day try to find me

Lovin' you is easy cause you're beautiful
You're asking yourself what's real
Wait in line till your time
How can I tell you what I'm feeling

#######

Damn cool right? How did i do it? Put your mp3 on Shuffle and write the first line of the next 20 songs. The 21st song will be the title. I only used english songs! Amazing how this actually conveys how i feel!

The Man Who Can't Be Moved

The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved

Going back to the corner where I first saw you,
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag not I'm not gonna move,
Got some words on cardboard got your picture in my hand,
Saying if you see this girl can you tell her where I am,
Some try to hand me money they don't understand,
I'm not... broke I'm just a broken hearted man,
I know it makes no sense, but what else can I do,
How can I move on when I've been in love with you...

Cos if one day you wake up and find that your missing me,
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I can be,
Thinking maybe you'd come back here to the place that we'd meet,
And you'd see me waiting for you on the corner of the street.

So I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

Policeman says son you can't sit her,
I said there's someone I'm waiting for if it's a day, a month, a year,
Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows,
If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go.

Cos if one day you wake up and find that your missing me,
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I can be,
Thinking maybe you'd come back here to the place that we'd meet,
And you'd see me waiting for you on the corner of the street.

So I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

People talk about the guy
Whos waiting on a girl...
Oohoohwoo
There on no hole in his shoes
But a big hole in his world...
Hmmmm

Maybe I'll get famous as man who can't be moved,
And maybe you won't mean to but you'll see me on the news,
And you'll come running to the corner...
Cos you'll know it's just for you

I'm the man who can't be moved
I'm the man who can't be moved...

Cos if one day you wake up and find that your missing me,
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I can be,
Thinking maybe you'd come back here to the place that we'd meet,
And you'd see me waiting for you on the corner of the street.
[Repeat in backgroung]

So I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

Going back to the corner where I first saw you,
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag not I'm not gonna move.

The Lucky 800 post, but its basically bitching...

about a lot of things.

I mean ARGH!! i am such a control freak. but how does one help it whenever I don't do as much, or control is as much, then things become sub-standard. There's really only so many people I can trust to let things go as they should and still have know that it will come out right.

Nothing really specific but more generic reflection of my personality. Friends have said I should loosen up, perhaps. Oh, but I am such a bitch some times! Its like I can't control the boiling feeling inside when things are sub-standard, or you know that things are happening that will have adverse effect when all that needs to be done is to shut up, move people away or do everything by myself. At least I can be sure of the quality, and if it sucks, then its all my fault, cos I suck (which incidentally i noted to ayline, mark and choo yuan that i indeed suck at many things!!! HAHAHAHA)

LOOSEN UP kiezin, don't be so anal retentive, take it easy and breathe!!

voice of no reason

recently, while on an atheist forum, i encountered a very strange person arguing against evolution and proving the existence of god. what i found overwhelming was the use of ad hominem defense for any argument leverage against them, and if we give any evidence for evolution, it would be refuted by a statement claiming that its a circular logic without proving anything. so fine so be it. we then ask them to prove the existence of god.

what truly baffled me was the use of the existence A to show that without the existence of B, there would not be A. this is a fundamental fallacy in itself.

the reasoning goes as such, there is the existence of a golden ratio. if there was no existence of god, how can there be a golden ratio. hence since there is golden ratio therefore god exist.

this is a very fundamental logic error that we humans are very prone to fall into. one must first establish that because of the existence of god therefore there is a golden ratio first for the above logic to stand, if not we can simply substitute the logic above with anything and it will still stand.

for e.g. there is the existence of a golden ratio. if there was no existence of Santa Claus, how can there be a golden ratio. hence since there is golden ratio therefore Santa Claus exist.
or even less subtly, there are poisonous apples in this world. if there was no Cinderella, how can there be poisonous apples. hence since there are poisonous, there are Cinderellas

And the weirdest thing is that this poster was obviously  out for a verbal sparring without even wanting to listen to anything posited, hence i said to the rest of them, there's no need to give any scientific evidence at all, since nothing will be believed.

Their research method seems to be:

1. Hypothesis - Evolution is wrong (or [insert random event] is wrong)
2. Methods - Check the Bible
3. Conclusion - Evolution is wrong / right depending which denomination and country you come from / [insert whatever the Bible says]

Critical thinking?

besides hot guys

Besides hot guys (1), what have i been up to?

mostly i have been keeping up with school work and that is making me busy enough.

I was just having a conversation with amy that day, and she noted that she wasn't feeling particularly motivated in school. But for me, i am feeling one notch lower, i feel unmotivated. (note the fine difference between not particularly motivated and unmotivated).

It just appears that there's this certain air of gloom surrounding year 4s, i saw it in my seniors and i wondered why, and now i am feeling it for myself.

i am almost very sure that i had enough of school and i don't want anymore of it. i am ready to be an adult and to go out there and rule the world!

Well what i have been doing? i have been going extremely high listening to remixes!

Uniquely Singapore...

In other countries, when there are massive securities lapse, such as the escape of the most wanted terrorist, the minister who's in charge will usually take responsibility in one way or another.

Only in Singapore, we do it the Singapore way.

Minister Wong Kan Seng said, "There is no doubt that Mas Selamat escaped" (....Noooooooooooo)

And of course its everyone else's fault. The guards who took too long to inform, the window, the fence. Everyone else BUT the ministry.

But of course, we're Uniquely Singapore. Its ok, our Ministers are human and they make mistakes. PAP ministers that is. BUT if you are in the opposition and just declare your race wrongly, OOOHHH that is damn grave error and you'll single handedly squander away all our reserves.

It is however ok that as the Minister of State, that you make a grievous, such as letting the most wanted terrorist escape. Yeap Singapore!

Loves me country to death

the boy insists

Because, even though it is one day further from the last time you saw each other,
it is one day closer to the next time you will…"

One of those days

Today is one of those days whereby after talking incessantly to the boy, we both started to frantically - well not that frantically but you get the idea - look for tickets to any location that is in between both of us. And obviously it has to be next week or the week after because neither of us can wait any longer.

"Missing someone gets easier everyday.
Because, even though it is one day further from the last time you saw each other,
it is one day closer to the next time you will…"

He tried to pass this off as his, but i know better =p

Its still the sweetest thing nonetheless.

this time of the year

It is always at this time of the year where times get just a bit tougher. It's always at about slight more than halfway through, because its just a bit too long since there we saw each other, but yet not near enough till we see each other again.

tough times will pass definitely and in just more than a few weeks i get to see you again.

doesn't make it less tough, but i can see the light getting brighter.

mom says 1 year apart is short. i think 6 months is way too long.

freakingly accurate

What Kie Zin Means

You are a seeker of knowledge, and you have learned many things in your life.

You are also a keeper of knowledge - meaning you don't spill secrets or spread gossip.

People sometimes think you're snobby or aloof, but you're just too deep in thought to pay attention to them.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.

You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.

You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.

You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.

At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are incredibly wise and perceptive. You have a lot of life experience.

You are a natural peacemaker, and you are especially good at helping others get along.

But keeping the peace in your own life is not easy. You see things very differently, and it's hard to get you to budge.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.

You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.

You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

hell hole

if you're on internship like me, you might be tempted to think that i am complaining about my internship and that it is a hellhole. well actually no. I have been quite enjoying my internship actually. some days there are really quite a lot of work, but i really enjoy working with my team, they are all very nice.

then why hell hole? what am i talking about? why, i am talking about singapore here! it is getting increasingly like a hell hole. my patience is running very thin here and i am not the only one. its getting so crowded in singapore, its really making sick and nauseated even. at tanjong pagar, i could queue for like 10min to just get up the escalator. and boon lay isn't a ride in the park either.

oh what about town? what about town i say. its so fucking crowded i want to avoid it like the plague, BUT wait what else is there to do in singapore if we don't shop. ok lets to the park. why all the parks are also damn fucking pack. even with a car to drive you to some far flunk places, there will always be at least a few pockets of people at best. there is way way way too many humans. just today as i was looking at the train of human beings making their way down the escalator exiting the station, i being to think that humans are like virus. we do nothing but destroy the host (host being mother earth) ARGH.

i want to get out of singapore to a place that is less crowded. somewhere where i can have peace strolling down the streets. somewhere where i can just be alone with him.

Chinese and the little things

Because we are Chinese, we value family and we value commitment. But all too often, we are exposed to the Western notion of things, such as romantic love. When we see movies, we always see the courtship and then the leads get together, and that's it. No movies discuss about commitment, about maintaining a relationship.

As Jeth says, after being together for 5 years, surely the flame will not be burning. Passion and romantic feeling fades, 爱情变成了感情. And it is perhaps 感情 that matters more, because its a commitment. The passion becomes a sort of concern and regard, and even dependence and habit. In my opinion, I think its a good thing. Sister tells me she's worried its a habit, and I say be happy its a habit, because it means that you guys are dependent on each other for something, and that is a good thing. TV always shows these impossible ideals.

A companion that drives the lonely nights away. Someone to just come home to. To be cooking braised pork, veggies and rice while waiting for him to come home from work. And he knows that you haven't had your coffee yet. Its in all these little things that says the most. More than any big expressions.

Because at the end of the day, we all need each other for something, making use? maybe in the most technical definition, yes. But in these small little things, we see more than just that. From always making sure you are around in a gathering, to knowing all your bad habits, telling you to stop it. To the care and concern about your family.

Statistics from Malaysia

On the Straits Times today, page 8, they published some statistics from the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) to rebuff the HINDRAF, saying that the Indians in Malaysia are "NOT that badly off"

According to the statistics, which Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu DID not say where the statistics came from (1):

11.5% are professionals and managers
19.4% are associate professors, lecturers and nurses
22.9% are sales personnel
4.9% are agricultural wokers
9.4% are craft and trade workers
20.1% are machine operators
16.3% are elementary workers

not that bad you say? well the figures add up to 104.5% and not 100%.... hrmmmmmmmmmmmmmm well Datuk Seri Samy is quick to add that it was due to rounding errors. Now what is rounding errors? rounding errors refer to the error makes when a person rounds up or down a figure to make it more manageable. So assuming that Datuk Seri Samy did round up all the figures, to cause such an increase, lets attempt to correct it. I'll minus 0.1% from all the figures, so instead of having a rounded up figure, it is now either the correct or a rounded down figure

11.4%
19.3%
22.8%
4.8%
9.3%
20%
16.2%

and that adds up to 103.9%. WHERE THE HELL DID MIC get their statistics from????????

desperate housewives

while watching season 4 of desperate housewives, this particular episode really strikes a chord with me. the part where andrew decided to move out because of the following conversation

##
Orson: After two nights of sleepless bonding with my son I nearly dozed off while repairing Mrs. Colby's cracked molar. I doubt if the crown I put in will last her a year.

Bree: So, you'll replace it for free.

Orson: That's not the point. How is a dentist supposed to feel when he can't give a 90-year-old a lifetime guarantee? Bree, I'm sorry but this whole family bed thing has to stop.

Bree: Oh, give it some time. We're still adjusting, and Benjamin is sleeping so soundly.

Orson: He can sleep just as soundly in a crib. From what you've told me, you and Rex didn't haul Andrew into bed with you.

Bree: No, and I wish we had. If we did he mightn't have turned out so...

Andrew: So, what? Stupid? Lazy? Short?

Bree: I was going to say angry.
##

then andrew decided to get a place of his own. bree went to visit and was absolutely appalled at the living conditions. but andrew wanted her to know its ok, he can make it. she couldn't see that he has changed. in her eyes, he still the same spoilt angry brat. and he was trying to tell her that he only wished she's noticed he has changed. he changed his way and even got a job to make ends meet.

the show ends with mary-alice saying "by denying the past, we are condemned to repeat it"

which is why i've learnt from the past, so that it doesn't repeat, so that things can be better.

i am damn naggy!

hahaha yes i am super naggy. ARGH!!!!

anyway love the new template?!?!? alexis loves it. i love it too! and its going to be an exciting weekend. dance boot camp in the morning, evening will be with my darling huiyi getting her new mac! yes everyone's getting it. why not you?!?!

the intelligent minister yet again

this times its our PM Lee. While i sincerely respect him for whatever he has done, the way PAP deals with opposition makes me lose respect. i feel that PM Lee is even downright rude this time. As a leader of a nation, although he is from a political party, surely PAP can afford more grace than that, to say:

"Our five men are working hard, but the opposition's five have scattered like monkeys when the tree fell... They call it their A team, I say its A for AWOL."

dear mr prime minister. Unlike the PAP MPs and ministers who gets paid hundreds of thousands to millions a year, other people actually have to WORK! what on earth do you expect them to do? sit around till the next election with no income?

SERIOUSLY!

you've got ZERO respect from me when it comes to dealing with opposition.

Leopard...

in more exciting news, other than the THIO-cracy and what a THIO-cratic country will with some THIO-logy

IT IS ARRIVING!!! i've pre-ordered it. hahahahahaha

this did not get published by ST

Dear Editor

I refer to the story "Factory worker jailed 4 months for molesting schoolgirls on bus" published on October 23 ST. In light of this story and recent events of the repealing of section 377a, I second Minister Ho Peng Kee's stand. He said, during Parliament Oct 22 that:

"There have been convictions over the years involving cases where minors were exploited and abused, or where male adults committed the offence in a public place such as a public toilet or back-lane." And because of issues like that we must retain 377a.

In light of the conviction of the factory workers and other convictions such as the father raping his daughters with the assistance of his wives, I propose that we ban heterosexual sexual activities too.

If we do not, the social fabric will be torn apart, and what will happen to our families?

Can you imagine the day where no children dare to step out into the public for fear of being molested by heterosexual and homosexual men? For the sake of our families and society, I urge the government to ban all forms of sexual activities.

#####

i am so worried one day there will be anarchy is singapore because the straight men are going to molest and rape all the girls over and on top of the gay men. what are we to do? singapore is going to collapse because we are all having sex! let us ban all forms of sex in singapore.

can you imagine that a straight women is sticking her tongue into a straight men's ass. or a straight men having anal sex with a women, that is like "sticking a straw up your nose" to quote ms thio. BAN ALL SEX NOW SINGAPORE!!!!!

small friend speaks about the repeal of 377a - Gay men have families too

Following the recent letters and the past conversations that have been given by the anti-gay factions, you would have noticed some common themes and arguments given by them. Some of these I have already addressed here. The issues were the medical arguments, the religious arguments and the family argument. For the legal preliminaries of the 377a ongoings, read here.

After reading some forum letters again I feel that there is an even greater need to address the family unit argument that is always put out in their defense. Summarizing the entire argument is Ms Lim Poh Suan, who wrote to Oct 17 Straits Times Forum.

I SUPPORT the retention of Section 377A of the Penal Code - a law criminalising gay sex - to uphold our moral and family values.

The petition by Nominated MP Siew Kum Hong does not serve the interests of Singapore as a whole but only of one small sector.

In fact, the removal of this law will lead to the disintegration of our social fabric, the family unit, which the Government has been establishing pro-actively.

I believe that strong families will lead to a strong nation.

I fully support the Government in keeping Section 377A. Gross indecencies must be penalised.

For the survival of our nation and the welfare of the future generation, the petition by NMP Siew should be ignored.

The family argument has always been put in this manner: Allowing gay people to have sex will destroy the family unit, therefore we should continue to ban gay sex. This simplistic argument stops there.

This argument ignores the fact that gay men are part of the family unit that they speak about. That every gay men has a mother, has a father, has a family. Regardless of the law, the gay men will still continue to be part of this family. And so what family unit are they talking about? What family unit are we protecting? Are we protecting families without gay people?

Look at 2 different scenarios: Scenario A is the ‘family’ that does not accept their son to be gay, they hate it, they are angry. They force their son to go for therapy (which there is none, as a psychology student, I ASSURE YOU), they constantly have fights because they can’t see beyond their hate, their anger and their ‘face’. Because they think that it is deviant. That society doesn’t accept, and then they quote you the law and the arguments that have always been used. Is that a family unit that the anti-gay faction is looking for?

Or Scenario B, a family that after some blood and tears, come to accept their gay son for who he is, and continues to love him for who he is, not who they want him to be. They enquire about his boyfriend, sends Christmas greetings, talks about their future. And when the son feels overwhelmed by the societal discrimination, all they can do is to stand by their son and say that things will slowly change.

Which is the family unit that the anti-gay factions want? One that will tear people apart, or one that ties the family together? Keeping the law will only further deepened any societal discrimination, because at the end of the day, ‘symbolically’ speaking, gay sexual acts are still criminal. Now if you are saying that you can be gay and not have sex, you must be kidding yourself, if nobody had sex, you would not even be reading this today.

Moving beyond the micro-level of family unit argument, is that the social fabric argument, which also centres around the family argument. The anti-gay faction love to use the word social fabric will be torn, as if society is a tangible material that can be ripped apart, this is philosophically known as the false concreteness. But that is beyond the scope of this argument.

How the society is being torn apart however is never mentioned, and it still leaves me wanting to ask how does it happen. How does allowing gay sex causes society to fall apart? The last time I checked, USA is still a super-power, Hong Kong still exist, so does China, and the European countries. Now it is easy to say that, ‘Well they are a different society”. But wouldn’t that be biting their own tongue when on one hand, it is argued that allowing gay men to have sex will tear the social fabric, but on the other it only appears that it will tear Singapore’s fabric.

The next thing that is commonly forgotten is that with or without this law, gay men have always had sex, and will always continue to have sex. And that makes the entire argument fall flat, in a very unglam way. Since the building of Singapore from 1965 till now, gay sex has always been around, and has our fabric been torn?

One last very commonly heard argument is that, well I don’t want my son to see gay men and be gay. Well darling, if just by seeing another gay men makes your son gay, then I feel very sorry for your son. Suddenly I wonder if all our film censors are gay, lesbians, murderers and paedophiles, because they have to watch the film to censor it no? Also, I am sure some of you out there might know a gay friend, you have seen at least some gay people on screen, are all you reading this now gay? Again this logic falls flat. What about other behaviors then? When we see dogs walking on all fours, do all of us who owns and live with dogs start walking on all fours? Here again, we see that the anti-gay faction’s argument account only in ONE specific example and cannot be applied to anywhere else. As a theory, it has got to be the worse in the world. I am not even to ask if the entire UK, USA, China, Hong Kong or Australia is gay. Because well they’ve allowed gay sex.

Beyond all this abstract arguments are very real people, very real emotions, and very real families. For all the anti-gay people out there, do you actually personally know what some gay people go through? To Pastor Derek Hong who asserted that gay people are not discriminated, does he know any gay men who have been? Does he even know any gay men who have not?

How many of us really know what some gay men go through? Behind the smiles that may be sometimes put up, do we really know what the family situation is like? How many families truly love and accept their gay son?

Gay men have families too.

small friend speaks about the repeal of 377a - the preliminaries

If you've been reading the ST forum and following the news, you would have definitely known that NMP Siew Kum Hong is submitting a parliamentary petition for the repealing of the Penal Code Section 377a. As a preliminary, the penal code section 377 states that:

Unnatural offences.

377. Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animals, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.

Explanation.
Penetration is sufficient to constitute the carnal intercourse necessary to the offence described in this section.

Outrages on decency.
377A. Any male person who, in public or private, commits, or abets the commission of, or procures or attempts to procure the commission by any male person of, any act of gross indecency with another male person, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years.

This can be found at http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/

Now this may also surprise you, but our constitution, article 12 states that

Equal protection
12. —(1) All persons are equal before the law and entitled to the equal protection of the law.

(2) Except as expressly authorised by this Constitution, there shall be no discrimination against citizens of Singapore on the ground only of religion, race, descent or place of birth in any law or in the appointment to any office or employment under a public authority or in the administration of any law relating to the acquisition, holding or disposition of property or the establishing or carrying on of any trade, business, profession, vocation or employment.

Homosexuality is NEVER stated anywhere in the constitution that it is singled out to be discriminated, therefore as guaranteed by the constitution, homosexuals are entitled to EQUAL PROTECTION of the law.

With the recent Penal code amendments and changes, oral and anal sex between heterosexual adults are legal, but any sexual activity between homosexual MALE continues to be illegal. As such, there are many people, straight and gay, who are asking for the repealing of Section 377a, which specifically singles out gay men to be criminalized.

if you've read the papers today...

you might have noticed that 5 SDP members were arrested for holding placards outside the Istana. The story read a bit like a primary school's student piece of work. about how the police ask them to move here move there, then they move here move there, then they tell them its illegal then you know the rest....

you know i like news with a bit of punch, you know not reading news that takes the ministry words as the absolute truth without actually checking to see if the numbers are correct and adds up.

but anyway, the intelligent singaporean in me was just thinking..... here Singapore is, appearing to condemn the junta for their acts against human rights, and expressed 'revulsion' at the Junta, here in our backyard, the police have arrested the FOUR SDP members who are demonstrating and one guy who was videotaping.

i wonder if any international media got hold of this event.

Oh by the way, for those who do not yet know, you can actually find out about our laws and constitution here athttp://statutes.agc.gov.sg/.

go there click on constitutional documents, click on our constitution, then scroll down to Part IV, fundamental liberties, select '14 Freedom of speech, assembly and association'

it may surprise you, but it reads

Freedom of speech, assembly and association
14. —(1) Subject to clauses (2) and (3) —
(a) every citizen of Singapore has the right to freedom of speech and expression;
(b) all citizens of Singapore have the right to assemble peaceably and without arms; and
(c) all citizens of Singapore have the right to form associations.

(2) Parliament may by law impose —
(a) on the rights conferred by clause (1) (a), such restrictions as it considers necessary or expedient in the interest of the security of Singapore or any part thereof, friendly relations with other countries, public order or morality and restrictions designed to protect the privileges of Parliament or to provide against contempt of court, defamation or incitement to any offence;
(b) on the right conferred by clause (1) (b), such restrictions as it considers necessary or expedient in the interest of the security of Singapore or any part thereof or public order; and
(c) on the right conferred by clause (1) (c), such restrictions as it considers necessary or expedient in the interest of the security of Singapore or any part thereof, public order or morality.

(3) Restrictions on the right to form associations conferred by clause (1) (c) may also be imposed by any law relating to labour or education.

Is the police acting separate from what our government feels because of the fear of too much work, you all know how our civil service works! I am not even going to talk about the coffee breaks or tea breaks or lunches or reading of papers at 3pm and coming to work at 1030am......

or are they working at the directives of our government? Are there any middle level people who are trying to second guess what our leaders want and are playing on the safe side of things?

i am not sure, but oh well. go figure..

Silence
Do nothing - remain silent. Risk is that this might not be noticed. (What a stupid idea! Silence is exactly what Myanmar’s government is trying to achieve by shutting down the country’s internet connection! We need to be louder than the military. They must hear an international uproar throughout the media, the other governments, etc…!)

my mother

i really don't know what to say. i love my mom alot. i really do. i just don't understand sometimes how to communicate. sigh

some stupid americans

there are such retarded americans around, and these frivolous lawsuits can only be found in the US of A. such as this.

a women is suing apple for $1 million in damages AND wants the court to grant her 3 times the damages meaning $3 million, because apple dropped the price of the iphone, and ATT and Apple FORCED her into a 2 year contract with termination fee.

i feel so sad for this women, she must have never owned a cell in her life, nor purchase anything in her life. (plasma TV anyone? the price dropped liked in hundreds in matters of day).

i am camping outside NTUC, when the price of the apples (HAHAHAHA!!! pun) drop, i will sue NTUC for causing emotional trauma with damages of $1 million. Also i am going to stand outside Shell, when the petrol prices rise or drops, i am suing them

and of course the pre-emptive lawsuits against everyone, just in case.

kinda reminds you of the women who sued mcdonalds for not telling her that her hot coffee was hot huh!!!

why is no one telling me my ice cream is cold!! SUE SUE SUE!

how the govt makes me hate them even more

I hate it when to our beloved government, human lives are just numbers. We are sitting here, as the CHAIR of ASEAN, looking at Myanmar shoot their monks, Singaporean and other innocent civilians like that Japanese photographer, and all we can say is that we are practicing "QUIET DIPLOMACY"

WHAT THE FUCK IS QUIET DIPLOMACY. how many more lives needs to be lost before we do anything. how many more people have to die before it becomes a problem. human lives ARE NOT NUMBERS. you don't sit down there getting your million of dollars of pay and to say that well, i need so many people to die before we do something.

speaking about money, CPF is irritating me more and more and more. Don't you love how much the government believe in us. that they do not even believe that we can spend our own money. we are paid so lowly already, then a HUGEASS amount goes to the government right, but you can never take that money back EVER.

Even when you are about to die, now you need to take it back as annuity. why? because they believe that we would go and fuck around the moment we get our CPF. yes at this juncture the state times and other media would run sob stories about how indeed there are 2 such cases and then sobbing tales of the wives. WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF US!

read before i die to see how one person got into trouble with his CPF. and of course mr wang on how this guy was convicted of cheating HIMSELF of HIS OWN CPF monies.

Or................. could it be that they need more money to invest? Afterall the GIC (Government Investment Company) has a not so simple relationship with the CPF funds. don't you EVER WONDER what happens to our money. 2.5% interest. come on, investment funds do much better than that.

"To a question by opposition MP Low Thia Khiang (Hougang) on whether the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) uses funds from the CPF funds to invest, Dr Ng said: "The answer is no."

"Later he rose to add: "The relationship is not so simple".

QUESTION PEOPLE. QUESTION. we all need to critically question every single thing. even religion, religious text. never let anyone draw wool over you. question every bloody thing.

i hate this place

our intelligent minister speaks

Mr Ho Peng Kee, our beloved minister of state said this to Mr Low in regards to a cycling permit for WP:

“If you listened very carefully Mr Low, I don’t know whether his hearing aid is with him because he wears one, I said there is a greater potential for law and order problems. You may be well-behaving, but there may be other people whom you come across when you cycle who may stop you, may want to debate with you and that may attract a crowd, and therefore will result in problems the police want to avoid.”

I don't know about you, but i think this REALLY speaks for itself. any commentary necessary?

the smelliest person on earth

Indeed the smelliest person on earth isn't a smoker. but a smoker who exercises and does not BATHE!!! oh my god. have you ever smelled a smoker who exercises and does not bathe but proceeds to take public transport home? I have met just one such person, and yes he is smellier than a smoker (not as if smokers not are not smelly enough as it is). So this person plonked himself next to me on the mrt and i almost puked.

the smell of old smoke mixed with the body perspiration, mixed with whatever smell of the exercise environment, and the personal smell, wah lou rotten meat also not so smelly lah. smells like 'smoked rotten pork with salt'.

really!!!!!

smelly people should be banned from public transport. in fact smelly people should be given vouchers to buy perfume, cologne or deodorant.

school is picking up and going to be incredibly busy. many research to do. much more projects on my lap than i can perhaps handle and i still have to make time for tuition and some freelance work (hey they pay the bills) in between all this there are still much more administrative stuff to do.

i fondly remember a conversation with one of my old project group mate that it seems that CS students are just like that. this is of course not discounting our 'darling' engineers or what have you. but oftentimes CS students just seems to have so many things on our plate, of course i am generalizing here, but really. some people even handle volunteer work and dance classes and all. and we pull through.

but sometimes i wonder how we pull through. late nights in schools for projects, for chitchat, for studying. rushing madly to finish up editing, then rushing home for dinner. the days! gosh.

i have 3 massive projects, one of which involves a 40 page, 10'000 word report (this excludes references, tables, graphs) another involves many pages and a physical campaign, 2 research papers for professor. did i mention my freelance work??????

what about me?

what about me?

#####

a blog i read said something and i thought that it is indeed so true:

"It’s scary how fast change is today. Yesterday i can say i love you, today i can scream at you for the slightest stupid mistake you made. I even saw people’s feelings change towards each other within hours. It’s alarming, i’d say. I saw how a promise made 24 years ago turn into dust as time rubs away traces of those words uttered. It’s sad, to say the least."

#####

there are some emails that i receive that i appreciate:

If we died tomorrow, the company
that we are working for could easily replace us in
a matter of days.
But the loved ones we left behind will feel the loss
for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more
into work than into our own loved ones,
an unwise investment indeed,
don't you think?

its been awhile

hey all of you. its been awhile hasn't it? I've back safe and sound. the qantas flight back was much better than the flight there! there's quite a few things that i want to say but i am just deprived of energy to sit down and blog about it properly.

i'm good. how's everyone???

love to all, and especially you.

oh, its national day.

its just another day where we raise our leaders on a pedestal and go on endlessly about our motherland and what a long way we've come. together with synchronized dances and parades and a show of might. oh well.

in other news, did anyone catch those snippets of north korea where their dear leader is standing watching the troops march past and despite having such immense famine, they spend so much money celebrating with dances and parades and all??
